Ashish Patel Joins AVG Technologies

Ashish Patel has joined anti-virus software maker AVG Technologies as senior VP of corporate development. He previously was with Intel Capital and, before that, with private equity firm Actis.

AVG Technologies, developers of the world’s most popular free anti-virus software, today announced that investment industry expert and AVG Board member, Ashish Patel, has joined the AVG executive management team. Patel brings 20 years of investment experience to the role of Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, where he will assist AVG through its next phase of growth.

Most recently, Patel was managing director and a member of the Management Review Committee at Intel Capital, a global leader in strategic investing, where he was responsible for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region and led investments in more than 50 technology start ups. He joined Intel Capital in 1999 and was a founding member of the firm in Europe and opened the London, Moscow, Dubai and most recently, Johannesburg offices. Patel was an early backer of open source software and lead Intel’s strategic investments into Suse and MySQL as well as opening up new emerging markets through investments such as Yandex and AVG.

Prior to Intel Capital, Patel was an investment director with Actis, a leading private equity investor in emerging markets, where he was a member of the telecom team. Patel qualified as an ACA with Coopers & Lybrand where he was engaged with corporate finance advisory activity mainly with large-cap international businesses. He serves on several boards, including AVG, Colibrys, and IP Access. Patel holds a B.Sc. in Economics from London School of Economics.
