Los Angeles-based AssetAvenue, an online lending platform for commercial real estate loans, has hired Varun Pathria as chief investment officer. Previously, Pathria worked at Colony Capital where he served as senior vice president.

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–AssetAvenue, an online lending platform for commercial real estate loans, is proud to announce that Varun Pathria has joined the company as Chief Investment Officer. Most recently, Mr. Pathria was Senior Vice President at Colony Capital, a global real estate private equity firm headquartered in Los Angeles, California.
During his eleven year tenure at Colony, Mr. Pathria closed on transactions valued in excess of $20B focused on opportunistic equity acquisitions, high yield debt originations and acquisitions, and certain portfolio management activities focused on restructurings and corporate platform investments. Notably, Mr. Pathria played a key role in a number of high profile Colony investments, including the acquisition of the Fairmont Hotels, William Lyon Homes, and the 103 hotel Jameson portfolio.

Mr. Pathria received his B.A. in Business Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1996 and went on to the UCLA School of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1999 with a specialization in Corporate Law. Mr. Pathria subsequently obtained his Masters in Business Administration in 2004 with a focus on Finance and Real Estate from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California and continues to serve as a Board Member at the USC Lusk Center for Real Estate.
