Audax-backed Katena buys Rhein Medical

Katena Products, which is backed by Audax Private Equity, has acquired St. Petersburg, Florida-based Rhein Medical Inc, a supplier of ophthalmic surgical instruments. No financial terms were disclosed.

Headquartered in St. Petersburg, FL, Rhein Medical is a supplier of ophthalmic surgical instruments. The company is focused on ophthalmic instruments used in surgical procedures in the anterior segment of the eye, including instruments for cataract and refractive surgery, glaucoma, corneal procedures, and ocular surface procedures.

Katena Products (“Katena”), a portfolio company of Audax Private Equity (“Audax”), has acquired Rhein Medical. The acquisition extends Katena’s product portfolio, expands its sales force, and broadens its manufacturing capabilities.

Audax acquired Katena in June 2015 as a worldwide leader in ophthalmic surgery products. Audax will continue to work with the Katena management team to further the company’s track record of organic growth and help accelerate its Buy & Build strategy to expand into new products and geographies.
