Lucas Meyer Cosmetics, a subsidiary of Québec City-based Unipex Group, is buying the portfolio of cosmetic ingredients and related IP rights of Biopharmacopae Design International from the company’s Canadian venture backer, Avrio Capital. The acquisition price was not disclosed. Unipex, which specializes in active ingredients, specialty chemicals and other chemical products, has been owned by European private equity firm IK Investment Partners since 2012. Québec City’s Biopharmacopae has been backed by Avrio since 2008.

Lucas Meyer Cosmetics Acquires Biopharmacopae Design International’s Portfolio of Cosmetic Ingredients from Avrio Ventures Limited Partnership
This acquisition consolidates Lucas Meyer Cosmetics’ position in the botanical segment.
Quebec, QC, July 17, 2013 – Lucas Meyer Cosmetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Unipex Group, and leader in the field of innovative active ingredients, functional ingredients and delivery systems for the cosmetics industry, is acquiring the portfolio of cosmetic ingredients and related intellectual property rights of Biopharmacopae Design International from Avrio Ventures L.P. Located in Québec City, Biopharmacopea Design International is specialized in the research and development of new cosmetic active ingredients and products derived from plant extracts.
Lucas Meyer Cosmetics and Biopharmacopae Design International have been working together since 2010 developing sophisticated botanical cosmetic active ingredients. With this acquisition, Lucas Meyer Cosmetics now owns Biophamacopae Design International’s intellectual property on cosmetic active ingredients that are already on the market and gains access to an important pipeline of unique botanical active ingredients. This acquisition is in line with Lucas Meyer Cosmetics’s growth strategy as it demonstrates the drive to growth its proprietary products.
