Baird Promotes One, Hires Two

Jamie Bellanca, former VP of advanced technology for Cleversafe, has joined Baird Private Equity as an entrepreneur-in-residence. The firm also announced that Lily Wang has joined Baird Capital Partners Asia as an associate and promoted Michael Liang to partner of Baird Venture Partners.


Baird Private Equity, the global private equity group of Robert W. Baird & Co. (Baird), is pleased to announce the promotion of Michael Liang to Partner of Baird Venture Partners, the hiring of Jamie Bellanca as an Executive-in-Residence with Baird Private Equity and Lily Wang as an Associate with Baird Capital Partners Asia.

· Michael Liang, Ph.D., has been promoted to Partner with Baird Venture Partners (BVP), the U.S.-based venture fund of Baird Private Equity. Liang, who was previously a Principal, helps to oversee BVP’s healthcare and life science investments. Liang joined BVP in 2006, and is currently a member of the board of directors of Palyon Corporation and Interlace Medical and a board observer at Centerre Healthcare Corporation. He is also a member of the Rush University Medical Center Associates Board, an Advisory Board member for the Medical College of Wisconsin Technology Development Fund, and a Board member for BioForward, the Wisconsin biomedical and medical device association. Liang received a B.S. from the University of California Berkeley and a Ph.D. in biophysical chemistry from Stanford University. He also conducted a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University. Liang is based in BVP’s Chicago office.

· Jamie Bellanca, has joined Baird Private Equity as an Executive-in-Residence. In this capacity, Bellanca provides guidance on technology strategy and development, operational refinement and investment evaluation in the Business Services sector. Prior to Baird Private Equity, Bellanca was the Vice President of Advanced Technology for Cleversafe, where he led the technology vision, built the patent program and drove the architecture and development of their global storage platform. Bellanca was previously a regional principal/national director at Lante Corporation, a publicly-held software and technology consultancy. Lante purchased his award-winning internet design and development company ingenious, inc. in 1999. Bellanca has led numerous successful technology product teams, receiving accolades including a 2008 Wall Street Journal technology innovation award (software), a Business Week Chicago Innovations Award, a Storage Visions Award, and a Webby Award. Bellanca holds a BS in Interdisciplinary Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and is based in Chicago.

· Lily Wang, CFA, has joined Baird Capital Partners Asia (BCPA), the China-focused growth equity fund of Baird Private Equity, as an Associate. Wang previously held summer associate positions in the investment banking division of Credit Suisse (Hong Kong) Ltd and the global manufacturing services group of International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Washington, D.C. Prior to that, she was a Senior Consultant at IBM/PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting and was an analyst at Fitch Ratings, both in Beijing. Wang received her Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Master’s degree in Finance from the University of International Business and Economics, and received her MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She is based in BCPA’s Shanghai office.
