Bday, developer of a Facebook app for gift giving, said it raised $2 million in Series A funding from Tel-Ad Electronics Ltd., a technology company in Israel. The Tel Aviv company said it will use the financing to expand its product portfolio and improve its technology.

Bday Gift Finder Recommends Physical and Virtual Goods Based on Friends’ Facebook Likes

TEL AVIV, Israel – February 1, 2012 – Bday, the fully integrated Facebook application that provides the answer to all your gift giving needs, today announced the launch of the Bday Gift Finder. Bday’s Gift Finder takes the guess work out of choosing the right gifts for friends and loved ones by recommending gift cards based not only on recipients’ Facebook Likes but also a thorough analysis of the sentiment attached to those Likes. The Bday Gift Finder focuses on gift cards rather than specific product recommendations, empowering users to buy gifts that are both personal and flexible.  Bday evaluated all fan pages associated with top brands and searches profiles only for Likes with a positive sentiment as determined by an actual person’s discerning eye, not by algorithms, which can be error-prone.  How it works:

–    Users log on to Facebook, visit the Bday app page and Allow the Bday Gift Finder
–    Once authorized, Bday Gift Finder analyzes friends’ Likes and matches them with brands that offer gift cards relevant to their interests
–    Users then click on a friend to discover recommended gift cards
–    Once a gift is selected, users are directed to the brand’s website, where they can purchase a gift card directly from the merchant, guaranteeing authenticity and security
