Blue Wolf Capital Partners LLC (“Blue Wolf”), the New York-based private equity firm, today announced that Bob Sharp has joined the firm as an Operating Partner.
Mr. Sharp has decades of experience leading and restructuring businesses in diverse industries. Most recently, he served as the Chief Restructuring Officer of Gloucester Engineering Corp (GEC), which is now majority-owned by Blue Wolf after successfully emerging from bankruptcy last month. From 2001-2008, Mr. Sharp served as an Operating Principal for American Capital Strategies, where he provided senior-level guidance to portfolio companies across a broad range of industries, including consumer goods, transportation, chemicals, paper and printing, and capital equipment. Prior to that, he was Chief Operating Officer of specialty-chemicals company Enthone, and he earlier held senior management positions at E. I. du Pont de Nemours. Mr. Sharp holds a BS degree from Georgia Institute of Technology.
“Both Adam Blumenthal and I have known Bob well since he first joined American Capital, where we worked on several projects together, and we are delighted that he is now joining us,” said Michael Ranson, Partner at Blue Wolf. “We were pleased when GEC selected him to lead the company’s turnaround and we were very impressed with his skill at resolving GEC’s issues. Under his leadership, the company’s labor agreements were renegotiated to provide much-needed flexibility, its facilities were reconfigured to improve efficiency, its order backlog increased and the company started hiring again. Bob’s expertise at managing different constituencies and his focus on effective cost cutting and growth initiatives are a good fit with Blue Wolf’s business practices.”
“I am excited to join Blue Wolf, which has a unique and proven investment approach,” said Mr. Sharp. “I value the opportunity to work with this team, whom I’ve enjoyed knowing for some time now, and the Blue Wolf portfolio companies. Together, we have an exciting opportunity to create value and re-build organizations by successfully resolving sometimes complex issues that plague the best of companies.”
