BMO Capital Markets, the investment and corporate banking arm of BMO Financial Group (NYSE, TSX: BMO), has appointed Richard Vieira as Managing Director and Head of Technology as it moves to expand its coverage of the broad technology markets.

Mr. Vieira will report to Perry Hoffmeister, Head of U.S. Investment & Corporate Banking and will join BMO’s Investment and Corporate Banking U.S. Management Committee.

Based in Boston, Mr. Vieira brings more than 16 years of investment banking experience in the technology sector. Previously, he was employed at Broadview International LLC and subsequently Jefferies & Co., which acquired Broadview in 2003. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.

“BMO is excited to bring our full suite of product capabilities – M&A, equity capital markets, debt capital markets, liability management and foreign exchange – to companies in the technology industry,” said Mr. Hoffmeister. “Technology is a vital sector for the U.S., Canada and other global economies. As BMO Capital Markets continues to expand its focus, it makes sense for us to bring our client-focused approach to the mid-cap and emerging segments of the technology industry.”

“The technology industry encompasses a large number of companies in different stages of development. These companies need excellent strategic advice from experienced advisors who have a track record and history in the industry. Many of these companies seek the full service attention and a broad range of services that are not offered by boutiques or are not accessible through the bulge bracket firms. BMO’s universal banking capabilities provide the ideal platform to do this,” added Mr. Vieira.

Mr. Vieira will initially lead a team of nine professionals, including Paul Griffin, Managing Director, also based in Boston, and David Wismer, Managing Director, based in Toronto. The Technology Group will work closely with BMO’s Business Services and Media Group in covering digital internet, social media and gaming companies.

“The Technology Group will combine its focus on North America (through offices in San Francisco and Menlo Park) with global insights from its offices in Beijing, Mumbai and London, to bring value and an international perspective to the research and advice we provide our clients,” Said Mr. Vieira.

BMO Capital Markets is fully committed to the Technology sector, and has Equity Research and Trading coverage in this industry. For more information about the firm’s dedicated team of six technology research analysts, visit:
