PRESS RELEASE
The Los Angeles Office of international law firm Jones Day announced today that Brette Simon has joined the Firm as a partner in the Private Equity Practice.
Ms. Simon comes to Jones Day from the Los Angeles office of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP, where she was a partner in the firm's corporate practice. A highly respected transactional attorney, she has represented both companies and investors in a variety of private equity and venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, and joint venture transactions. Ms. Simon was recognized last year as one of the top 13 dealmakers in the U.S. for the middle market by the editors of The Deal, a leading corporate finance publication, and she has been listed in Southern California Super Lawyers in the field of mergers and acquisitions every year since 2005.
“Brette has built a tremendous career as a trusted advisor to her clients for a broad array of corporate transactions, so we're delighted that she has decided to join our team here at Jones Day,” said Rick McKnight, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's Los Angeles Office. “Brette's move to our Firm is the latest important addition to our flourishing transactional practice in Los Angeles, complementing the depth of experience we continue to build upon in our long-standing litigation practice.”
According to Mr. McKnight, Ms. Simon is the fourth transactional attorney to join the West Coast offices of Jones Day as a partner in just the past three months. In January, James Olson and Randall B. Schai joined Jones Day's San Francisco Office from Heller Ehrman LLP as partners in the Banking & Finance and Private Equity practices, respectively. In December, Stuart Ogg joined the Firm's Los Angeles Office from Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP as a partner in the Capital Markets Practice. In addition to these lateral partners, Jones Day also named Los Angeles attorneys Paul Lin and Chelsea Grayson as partners in the Mergers & Acquisitions Practice in January 2008.
“I'm very excited to join Jones Day, which ranked #1 in Buyouts' league tables for number of completed deals in 2007,” said Ms. Simon. “I look forward to working with my new partners around the world in growing the Private Equity Practice, while also continuing to work with middle-market companies on M&A transactions.”
Prior to joining Sheppard Mullin, Ms. Simon practiced corporate law at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and O'Melveny & Myers LLP in Los Angeles. She graduated Order of the Coif from UCLA School of Law, where she was Editor of the UCLA Law Review, and received her undergraduate degree in quantitative economics from the University of California at San Diego, where she graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
