Ex-Strategic Partners veteran joins Rothschild’s Five Arrows to help build US presence

  • Kolin joined this month
  • Five Arrows closed its last secondary fund in 2016
  • Kolin spent years at Strategic Partners

Brian Kolin, a former executive with Strategic PartnersBlackstone Group’s secondaries outfit, has joined Rothschild & Co.’s Five Arrows group, two sources told Buyouts.

Kolin, who joined Five Arrows as a managing director on the Multi Strategy team, will help build its U.S. presence, the sources said. Five Arrows Multi Strategy runs various private equity strategies, such as fund investments and European secondaries.

Kolin serves on the investment committees for the secondary funds and the Five Arrows Private Equity Program, which makes fund commitments, co-investments and secondaries, according to Rothschild’s website.

The secondary group focuses on European small- and mid-cap secondaries, with a bias toward direct acquisitions of companies out of funds.

Five Arrows closed its most recent Fund IV on 451 million euros ($503 million) in 2016. The fund is led by Managing Partner Mireille Klitting.

Founded in 2003, Five Arrows has not traditionally had a U.S. presence. It closed its maiden U.S.-focused corporate private equity fund last year on more than $655 million. It’s not clear if the group will raise a separate U.S.-focused secondary fund.

Kolin left Strategic Partners last year along with Boriana Karastoyanova, Buyouts’ sister publication Secondaries Investor previously reported. Kolin joined Strategic Partners before its 2013 acquisition by Blackstone.
