Ian Chiu, a longtime executive at Warburg Pincus, left the firm and joined Owl Ventures to focus on education-technology investments.

Chiu joined Owl Ventures as a managing director this month, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He did not respond to a LinkedIn request for comment. A spokeswoman for Owl Ventures also did not respond to a request for comment.

Chiu was most recently a principal in technology, media and telecom at Warburg Pincus, an archived version of the website shows. He joined Warburg in 2008, prior to which he worked at Silver Lake and was a consultant at Bain & Co.

At Warburg, Chiu sat on the boards of the Saas-based provider of facility management services Dude Solutions, private-education provider Stratford Schools and admissions-management-services provider Liaison International, the archived website said.

Owl Ventures is in market, targeting $225 million for its third fund, according to an SEC filing. Owl last year raised $185 million for its second fund focused on investments in edtech startups.

The firm raised just over $100 million for its first fund in 2015.

Tory Patterson and Jed Smith launched Owl Ventures. Smith was founder and Patterson was a partner with Catamount Ventures.
