On the move, 1.23.2017 – CD&R promotes four to partner

PRIVATE EQUITY FIRMS

Aquiline Capital Partners, the New York financial-services-focused private equity firm, added Max Chee and Michael Cichowski to the team. They’ll work on developing the firm’s tech growth fund. Chee previously was a managing partner at Millennium Technology Value Partners while Cichowski was a managing director at a family office.

Ares Management: Scott Graves joined the firm as a partner in the Los Angeles-based private equity group. Graves will lead the Ares Special Situations Funds platform as portfolio manager and head of distressed. Graves was previously Oaktree Capital Management’s head of credit strategies and portfolio manager of multistrategy credit.

Carrick Capital Partners named Carol Lindstrom a special adviser. Lindstrom is a former vice chairman of Deloitte LLP. And the firm appointed Paul Zolfaghari as an operating executive. Zolfaghari formerly was president of MicroStrategy.

Clayton, Dubilier & Rice appointed Liam FitzGerald an operating adviser to CD&R funds. FitzGerald is former CEO of UDG Healthcare. He will be based in CD&R’s London office.

Fenwick Brands hired Elizabeth Stewart as director of investments. Stewart previously worked at Harbert Management and Webster Capital.

HGGC named Greg Hughes, David Chung and Bob Pender executive directors and hired James Herrmann as business-development officer. Chung is a former investment partner at Blum Capital Partners while Hughes was president and CEO of HGGC portfolio company Serena Software. Pender most recently served as Serena’s chief operating officer. Herrmann had a business-development role at former Bain Capital portfolio company Icon Health and Fitness.

Lindsay Goldberg named Brian Kelley a partner. Kelley is former CEO of Keurig Green Mountain.

Maranon Capital named Greg Daniele vice president. Daniele had been an associate within Bank of America Merrill Lynch‘s investment banking group.

Seacoast Capital hired Phil Curatilo as principal and chief marketing officer. Previously, Curatilo was principal and CMO for Cyprium Partners (and its predecessor firm, KPP), managing director for Westham Capital and general partner for Riverside Partners.

Silversmith Capital Partners named Mark Briggs senior adviser. Briggs is the former CEO of Ability Network.

Summit Partners appointed David Schiller as chief investor relations officer. Schiller previously was managing director at Renaissance Institutional Management. He also co-led North American institutional distribution for BlackRock Alternative Investors.

Vesey Street Capital Partners, a middle-market healthcare-focused PE firm, hired Larry Marsh and David De Luca as general partners. The firm also named Bryan Sekino chief financial officer. Marsh previously was executive vice president of new-market development and chief strategy officer at AmerisourceBergen; De Luca was a managing director and head of U.S. institutional equity sales in New York and other regions for Morgan Stanley; and Sekino worked at Brant Point Capital Management.

Waud Capital Partners named Tim Lawler principal of human capital. Lawler founded T4 Capital Talent, an executive-search firm serving PE funds and their portfolio companies.

PORTFOLIO COMPANIES

American Seafoods Group of Seattle, backed by Bregal Partners, appointed Mikel Durham CEO. Current CEO Bernt Bodal continues as chairman.

Applied Acoustics International, a portfolio company of Angeles Equity Partners, named Tony Daines chief marketing officer. Daines was CMO for Adler Pelzer Group’s NAFTA business unit. AAI is the Chicago Heights, Illinois, provider of noise, vibration and harshness solutions for the North American automotive sector.

Cornerstone Healthcare Group Holdin, the Dallas healthcare company backed  by Highland, named Steve Jakubcanin president and CEO. Jakubcanin previously was AccentCare’s chief operating officer.

Elite Comfort Solutions, backed by Arsenal Capital, appointed Chris Chrisafides CEO. Chrisafides previously was commercial vice president at Dow Chemical’s North American polyurethane division.

Marcolin Group, the Italian eyewear company backed by PAI Partners, named Massimo Renon a worldwide commercial general manager.

Network International, the largest payment-processing firm across the Middle East and Africa, appointed Simon Haslam chief executive. The Dubai company is jointly owned by Emirates NBD, Dubai’s largest bank, and PE firms Warburg Pincus and General Atlantic.

SERVICE PROVIDERS

Alantra named Kevin O. Hawkins a vice president. Hawkins previously was a vice president at Bowen Advisors.

DaVita, a medical group and kidney-care-services provider, appointed Joel Ackerman chief financial officer. Ackerman, currently CEO of Champions Oncology, is a former partner at Warburg Pincus.

Debevoise & Plimpton appointed PE lawyer Simon Witney a consultant in London. He previously co-led King & Wood Mallesons’s funds team in London.

FIRSTavenue appointed Andy Hayes a principal, based in the placement agent’s new Dallas office, which will open in March. Hayes previously was an investment officer at Oregon State Treasury.

Goodwin is expanding its private equity and private investment funds practices by adding six new partners, 15 associates and five trainees in the London office. All are joining the law firm from King & Wood Mallesons’ London office. The new partners are Laura Charkin, Shawn D’Aguiar, Patrick Deasy, Michael Halford, Ed Hall and Ajay Pathak.

Greenstone Equity Partners, the Middle-East-based fund-placement firm, hired Sean Kearney as chief operating officer and Khalid Alkelabi as managing director of investor relationships. Kearney most recently was senior executive officer for UBS AG’s Dubai branch, while Alkelabi was chief administrative officer at Al Fozan Holding Group.

Mayer Brown hired Robert Woll as a partner in the international law firm’s corporate and securities practice and the fund-formation and investment-management group. Woll, who will be based in Hong Kong, will work with PE funds and institutional investors across the Asia-Pacific region. Woll previously was a partner in the financial-services practice group at Deacons.

Mooreland Partners hired Phil Kwun as a managing director. Kwun had been a managing director at Sonenshine Partners.

O’Melveny is adding the private equity attorney Jonathan Blake to its global investment funds group. Blake is joining the law firm’s London office from King & Wood Mallesons, where he headed the international-funds practice.

White Oak Healthcare Finance named Jason Dufour a managing director. Dufour previously was a regional credit manager at Wells Fargo Capital Finance.

PROMOTIONS

Accurus Aerospace, a provider of machined parts, kits and assemblies and processing services focused on aircraft platforms, promoted Robert A. Kirkpatrick to president and CEO. Accurus also named James M. Gibson  chairman. Accurus was formed by Liberty Hall Capital Partners in 2013.

Altus Capital Partners promoted Thomas R. Groh to partner, Nick A. deMarco to vice president and Joshua M. Tesoriero to senior associate. Groh joined the firm in 2014 and deMarco and Tesoriero came on board in 2016.

BelHealth Investment Partners, the healthcare-focused PE firm, promoted Joseph Wynne to chief administrative officer, Paul Barrett to vice president and Jonathan Spero to senior associate.

Carlyle Group promoted 62 professionals to senior positions. This includes 13 to partner, 17 to managing director and 32 to principal/director.

Cinven promoted three staffers to partner and another to director. The new partners are Chris Good, Thomas Railhac and Ivan Kwok. Brett Lewis has become a director on the portfolio team.

Clayton, Dubilier & Rice promoted Sarah Kim, Stephen W. Shapiro, Derek L. Strum and J.L. Zrebiec to partner. Kim joined CD&R in 2008, Shapiro came on board in 2002, Strum was first hired in 2003 and Zrebiec joined in 2004.

Cyprium Partners promoted Nicholas Stone to managing director. Stone oversees Cyprium’s Chicago office and will lead the firm’s origination and marketing activities.

DW Healthcare Partners promoted Aly Champsi to managing director and partner. Champsi’s background includes positions at BMO Nesbitt Burns, Mercer Management Consulting and Clairvest Group.

Gen II Fund Services, a PE fund administrator, promoted four staffers to managing director. They are Amber Koiner, Kevin Mahnken, Peter Rosenstein and Elise Silverman.

Harvest Partners SCF promoted Steve Duke and Sean Murphy to managing director. Duke first joined the firm in 2014 while Murphy came on board in 2016.

Harvest Partners promoted Andrew Schoenthal to senior managing director from managing director. Other promotions include Nick Romano to managing director; Michael Greenman, James Mitchel and David Schwartz to principal and Steve Fessler to vice president.

HGGC promoted Pat Dugoni to vice president from senior associate.

Onex promoted Amir Motamedi to managing director. Motamedi joined the firm in 2006. Prior to joining Onex, Motamedi worked in Goldman Sachs’s investment- banking unit.

Pritzker Group Private Capital promoted Brad West to principal-legal from vice president.

Riverside Partners promoted Michelle Noon and Max Osofsky to general partner. The Boston middle-market private equity firm also upped David Del Papa to partner and Chris Ryan to principal. The promotions beef up the investment team as the firm deploys its fifth fund, which closed at $561 million.

Spectrum Equity promoted Mike Farrell to managing director and Julia Kuo to vice president. Farrell joined the firm in 2009 while Kuo came on board in 2011. Farrell previously was at Tudor Investment Corp‘s private equity arm while Kuo worked at Goldman Sachs.

TA Associates: Birker Bahnsen was promoted to managing director from director, while Ethan Liebermann was promoted to principal from senior vice president. TA also tapped Aditya Sharma a senior vice president and Vivek Mohan a vice president.

Tonka Bay Equity Partners promoted Kam Kielhorn to director. Kielhorn joined the firm in 2015 as an associate. He had been a manager in the transaction-advisory practice at Ernst & Young.
