Tricap Partner Eric Saucedo unexpectedly dies

  • Saucedo joined Tricap in 2005
  • Previously worked at Compass Capital, Apax Partners
  • Was 52 years old

Eric Saucedo, a partner at Tricap Partners & Co, died unexpectedly on Jan. 5, Diane Sanchez, partner at the firm, confirmed for Buyouts.

Saucedo, who was 52, took his own life, according to his brother, Christian Saucedo. He battled with depression for many years, Christian said.

Saucedo worked at Tricap for 13 years, joining in 2005. Previously, he worked in business development at UBS, and spent time at Compass Capital and Apax Partners, according to his biography provided by Tricap.

He also was involved in several charity organizations. Saucedo worked as director of KidSmart Co, which raises awareness of children with learning disabilities. He also raised money for ALTSO, a not-for-profit that provides free orthopedic care to children in underdeveloped countries.

He is survived by “the love of his life,” his 12-year-old son Jackson, according to a statement Tricap published this week.

“Eric was without question the heartbeat of the company. He worked tirelessly to provide value to our ecosystem of investors and clients. He will be remembered as a dedicated leader, a serial networker who never stopped cultivating new partners and new avenues of influence relative to achieving Tricap’s mission,” the statement said.

Tricap is a merchant bank and alternative-asset firm that works with clients like family offices and institutions in the United States and Latin America to build customized portfolios. It manages client capital across investment products like public equities and fixed income, hedge funds, private equity and real assets. It also leads investments or invests alongside sponsors and family offices in early-stage and middle-market companies.

The firm will continue operations and will eventually bring in another partner, Sanchez said.

Tricap is planning a celebration of Saucedo’s life, though details are not yet available. Those interested in more information can reach out to the firm at info@tricappartners.com.

The family hopes to raise awareness about mental illness, Christian said. Those interested in helping can do several things:

1.) Fight the stigma against mental illness by taking the stigma pledge here;

2.) Make a memorial donation to the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI).

3.) In celebration of Eric’s life, the family will participate in the NAMI walk on May 12, 2018, in New York City. Those interested are asked to join the family for the walk and a casual gathering afterward.
