PerfectlySoft Inc. Closes $1.5 Million Seed Round with Investment from York Angel Investors

Investment group raises capital for Newmarket, Ontario-based creator of world’s first server-side Swift development framework

TORONTO, Aug. 19, 2016 /CNW/ – PerfectlySoft Inc., the creator of the Perfect mobile app development framework for Apple’s open source Swift programming language, announced today that it closed its seed funding round of $1.5 million with help from York Angel Investors Inc., an angel investment group based in York Region which supports entrepreneurs and startup businesses throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

“PerfectlySoft and its milestone product, Perfect, are emblematic of the technological innovation and foresight that we’ve come to expect from our local entrepreneurs,” said Jess Joss, Executive Director at York Angel Investors. “We are proud to stand behind the entire PerfectlySoft team through our investment as they make their mark on the global software development community.”

Introduced in November 2015, Perfect removes traditional front-and-backend iOS development silos by allowing developers to code in Swift on the server as well as on the device. Perfect, architected by PerfectlySoft’s Chief Technology Officer Kyle Jessup, was built with 20 years of knowledge and codebase from the Lasso programming language. In recent months, PerfectlySoft has promoted coding education and Swift development globally and across the Greater Toronto Area through a series of programming meet-ups, lectures, and other community-building events.

Swift, a modern programming language introduced by Apple in 2014, was made open source software in December 2015, with ports available for Linux and FreeBSD. In June 2016, Apple announced the forthcoming release of Swift 3.0, as well as the Swift Playgrounds iPad app for teaching kids to code in Swift. PerfectlySoft will use the funds invested by York Angel Investors to advance and scale its server-side architecture in anticipation of Apple’s release of Swift 3.0 later this year.

“It is a privilege to join the York Angel Investors network as we continue to build and refine the Perfect platform for our global database of users,” said Sean Stephens, CEO of PerfectlySoft. “Their investment is a testimony to the growth of the Canadian economy, and the willingness of its members to support the future of startup technology businesses across York Region and the Greater Toronto Area.”
