Canadian mobile venture capital firm Relay Ventures has expanded its team. The firm brought on Spiros Michalakis, a California Institute of Technology quantum physics professor, as professor-in-residence. It also recruited Jessica Tsoong, co-founder of WiFiSLAM, an indoor mapping startup once funded by Relay, as an entrepreneur-in-residence, and Kady Srinivasan, global head of digital marketing at Dropbox, as a venture partner. Finally, Relay promoted Jake Cassaday to associate partner. Cassaday, who joined the firm in 2015, will as a member of the investment team source and lead deals directly.

New team members include Professor-in-Residence, Entrepreneur-in-Residence, and Venture Advisor
TORONTO and MENLO PARK, CA – September 28, 2017 – Early-stage investor Relay Ventures has expanded its team with the addition of Spiros Michalakis, Professor of Quantum Physics at Caltech as Professor-in-Residence; Jessica Tsoong as Entrepreneur-in-Residence; and Kady Srinivasan, Global Head of Digital Marketing at Dropbox as Venture Advisor. The firm also promoted Jake Cassaday to Associate Partner.
Spiros Michalakis, Professor of Quantum Physics at Caltech has joined Relay as Professor-in-Residence. In addition to working closely with Relay’s portfolio companies, Spiros will also advise Relay on its academic outreach strategy. Relay is continuing to build relationships with founders doing research at some of California’s top universities, as well as helping students at these schools access early stage venture capital so that they can pursue their ambitions to start a company of their own. Spiros is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and completed his PhD at the University of California at Davis.
Jessica Tsoong has joined Relay as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence. Jessica was co-founder of WiFiSLAM, the indoor mapping startup funded by Relay and acquired by Apple in 2013. Following the acquisition, Jessica joined the iOS location team at Apple and spent the last year in corporate development on Apple’s M&A integration team. Working from Relay’s Menlo Park office, Jessica’s focus will be on deal sourcing, investments, and advising portfolio companies on product management and strategy. In addition, as an EIR, she is exploring her next startup opportunity. Jessica holds an Engineering degree from Columbia University and a Master’s degree from Stanford University.
Kady Srinivasan, Global Head of Digital Marketing at Dropbox, has joined Relay as a Venture Advisor. Like Relay’s 18 other Venture Advisors, Kady will spend time advising portfolio companies, hosting CEO workshop dinners, coaching founders, and strategizing with Relay partners on a range of issues and topics to help startups scale and grow their businesses. As a world-recognized leader in digital marketing, Kady will help Relay portfolio companies succeed by effectively acquiring, retaining and growing their customer base using the latest proven digital marketing techniques. Kady was previously at Electronic Arts where she held the role of Senior Director of Growth for mobile. Kady holds a computer science and engineering degree from R. V. College of Engineering in Bangalore and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Toronto-based Jake Cassaday has been promoted to Associate Partner. Jake joined Relay as a summer intern in 2014 and returned to the firm in 2015 as an Associate following the completion of his MBA at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. In this new role, Jake becomes a member of the investment team and will source and lead investments directly. Prior to joining Relay, Jake was Global Brand Manager at Spin Master where he was responsible for product management and marketing for their tech portfolio of brands.
