Relay Ventures goes west with hire of Irfhan Rawji as VP

Canadian mobile venture capital firm Relay Ventures has hired Irfhan Rawji as a venture partner. Rawji, who is based in Calgary, will help Relay develop its market presence in Western Canada and the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Before joining the firm, he had a 15-year career as a strategic consultant, investor, and public company senior executive responsible for M&A, strategy and investor relations. On the investment side, Rawji’s experience included senior roles at Birch Hill Equity Partners and Onex Corp. Relay raised $200 million for its third mobile fund last November.


Irfhan Rawji Joins Relay Ventures as Venture Partner

TORONTO, CALGARY, and MENLO PARK, Calif. – March 28, 2017 – Relay Ventures today announced that Irfhan Rawji has joined the firm as a Venture Partner. In this role, he will be responsible for the firm’s market development in Western Canada and the US Pacific Northwest.

Irfhan brings to Relay extensive experience as a strategic consultant, investor, and public company senior executive responsible for M&A, strategy, and investor relations. Through his 15-year career, Irfhan has been in senior roles with McKinsey & Company, Onex Corporation, and Birch Hill Equity Partners. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia where he taught finance, public policy, strategy, and leadership.

Irfhan, based in Calgary, AB, presently sits on the boards of The Organic Box, as well as Relay portfolio company Carrot Insights. He is actively involved in civic affairs as a board member of the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, Vice Chair of Glenbow Museum, member of the Harvard Business School Global Alumni Board, and member of the Calgary 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Bid Exploration Committee.

Irfhan holds an MBA with High Honors from Harvard Business School where he was a Baker Scholar, and a BCom with High Honours from the University of British Columbia where he was a Wesbrook Scholar. He is a recipient of The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and Arnold Edinborough Award.
