Capital Z Seeks $400 Mln with Latest Fund

Capital Z Partners is looking to collect $400 million with its next private equity fund, according to sources and an SEC filing.

New York-based Capital Z  is currently speaking to its existing LPs about the fundraise, a person says.

Sixpoint Partners is the placement agent for fund V, the SEC filing dated Oct. 16 says.

Bloomberg News reported Cap Z’s expected fundraising in May.

The firm’s last fund — which was technically its fourth but was called Capital Z Partners III LP — raised less than $500 million, a source says. Cap Z collected $251 million in 2007 with its prior fund, the Royal Gazette says.

Cap Z focuses on financial services companies in the U.S. and Europe. However, the firm is known for its insurance investments. The firm has invested in Annuity and Life Re Holdings, National Re Corp., Catlin Group, S.A.C. Re Holding, USI Holdings and Lancashire Holding.
