Carlyle has no plans to replace AlpInvest secondaries MD Hektor

A major figure in the private equity secondary world has left his post. Tjarko Hektor, who formerly co-led the secondaries team at Carlyle Group-backed AlpInvest Partners, has left the firm, Carlyle spokesman Randy Whitestone told peHUB.

Secondaries Investor reported Hektor’s departure earlier.

It’s not clear if Hektor is leaving AlpInvest to take a new job or when he actually left the firm. His name is no longer listed on AlpInvest’s website. Hektor could not be reached for comment.

Hektor worked at AlpInvest since at least 2004, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was most recently listed as a managing director on the secondaries team.

Carlyle has no plans to replace Hektor, according to a source close to the firm. Managing Partner Wouter Moerel leads the firm’s global efforts from Amsterdam, while Managing Directors Chris Perriello, Justine Gordon andMichael Hacker, along with 10 other investment professionals, focus on investments in the Americas. AlpInvest has a 25-member global secondaries team.

Carlyle acquired a majority stake in AlpInvest in 2011 and bought the remaining interest in 2013. AlpInvest now sits within Carlyle’s $51 billion Solutions Group, led by Jacques Chappuis, which works on primaries, secondaries, co-investments and separate accounts for limited partner clients.

The Solutions Group is comprised of AlpInvest for private equity, Metropolitan Real Estate for real estate, and Diversified Global Asset Management for hedge fund exposure.

AlpInvest has lost several senior executives since Carlyle took control, including Elliot Royce, the former co-head of the fund investment group, who stepped down in 2013; Scott Hamner, a partner in the Solutions Group, who left in 2013, and Volkert Doeksen, the former head of AlpInvest, who moved into a vice chairman role last year.
