Caroline Chabrerie Joins Proskauer Rose

Caroline Chabrerie has joined Proskauer Rose as a partner in the firm’s Paris office. She will focus on private investment fund formation and related transactions, and previously was with SJ Berwin. Also coming over from SJ Berwin is senior associate Christophe Baert.

In a move that signals the continued expansion of its private investment fund formation and related transactional practices, Proskauer Rose is proud to announce that Caroline Chabrerie has joined the firm as a partner in Paris. She arrives with Christophe Baert, who joins as a senior associate.

Ms. Chabrerie and Mr. Baert join Proskauer from SJ Berwin. Ms. Chabrerie focuses her practice on private investment fund formation, venture and growth capital transactions, secondary transactions and capital markets as well as executive profit-sharing plans, spin-outs from investment funds and management, and stock exchange law. Mr. Baert’s practice is primarily centered on fund formation and capital investment transactions in addition to secondary deals and structuring of management companies.

According to Daniel Schmidt, partner and head of Proskauer’s Paris private equity practice, Ms. Chabrerie could not have joined the firm at a better time.

“The private equity market continues to evolve, with new opportunities for investment and more global expansion than ever before,” he said. “Caroline is working with Europe’s top funds and investors as they respond to these changes, giving her insight and knowledge that will be invaluable not just to our clients here but around the world.”

Robin Painter, co-chair of Proskauer’s Corporate Department and co-head of its world-renowned Private Investment Funds Practice Group, noted that Ms. Chabrerie is a key addition to the firm’s platform, which extends across Boston, New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris and Hong Kong.

“The needs of the private equity community are increasingly complex, making a practice with unparalleled breadth and depth of experience more important than ever,” she said. “Our clients around the world come to us not just for our legal abilities, but for our perspective on market trends and insight into the industry’s leading players. Caroline complements and extends these capabilities and we look forward to her contributions.”

According to Guillaume Kellner, partner and head of Proskauer’s Paris corporate practice, Ms. Chabrerie’s addition not only strengthens the firm’s private equity capabilities but its entire corporate group.

“The needs of our corporate clients are growing and the arrival of Caroline allows us to continue to accommodate them and develop proactive strategies that address the changing dynamics of today’s economy and anticipate their future needs,” he said.

The addition of Ms. Chabrerie and Mr. Baert to Proskauer’s Paris office is the latest development in the firm’s ever-expanding representation of the private equity community. In 2008, the firm represented sponsors in closing more than 125 funds with over $30 billion in committed capital and closed more than 450 investments in all types of funds, representing well over $19 billion. In addition, the firm advised clients in numerous fund restructurings in the last year and negotiated and closed well over 100 secondary transactions, ranging from the sale of a single partnership interest to bulk portfolio purchases and sales with aggregate transaction values in excess of $1 billion.

Ms. Chabrerie is a graduate of the University of Paris II and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris. Mr. Baert is a graduate of the University of Politiers.
