Caspian Private Equity said on Tuesday that it has made a few personnel changes. Sheryl Schwartz joined the company as managing director of investments. Also, David Marcus, who has served as vice president, has been promoted to director. Based in New York City, Caspian is an affiliate of Natixis Global Asset Management L.P.

Sheryl Schwartz has joined Caspian as Managing Director, Investments, starting June 18, 2013. She has been appointed to Caspian’s Investment and Executive Committees. Prior to joining Caspian, Ms. Schwartz was a Managing Director at Perseus Finance in New York from 2010 to April, 2013, where she was one of the partners responsible for fundraising, sourcing, evaluating and making direct mezzanine and structured equity investments in connection with leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations,
and growth financings in lower middle market companies.
Prior to Perseus Finance, Ms. Schwartz had a long and successful career at Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA-CREF) from 1988 to 2010, where she spent half of her career investing in alternative investments and half investing in fixed income investments. From 1997 to 2010, she was a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager of TIAA’s Alternative Investment team. As such, she established TIAA as a significant investor in alternative investments with over $13 billion of initial commitments. As head and founder of the team, Ms. Schwartz built a diversified, global investment portfolio across an array of co-investments,
mezzanine debt and funds including private equity, emerging markets, international, venture capital, distressed debt, equity turnaround, energy and infrastructure, leveraged buyouts and timber. In addition, she is credited for having created a comprehensive investment structure for the TIAA-CREF Alternative Investments team and evaluated and approved an investment program deploying $500 million to $1 billion per year in capital investment over ten years. She built TIAA-CREF’s reputation as a thought leader in alternative investing and contributed to its differentiated position in the institutional asset management
industry. She is a noted speaker at industry conferences and a quoted expert in many periodicals.
David Marcus is promoted to Director, Investments
David Marcus, who has served Caspian as Vice President from March 2011, has been promoted to Director.
Mr. Marcus is a member of Caspian’s investment team and a member of Caspian’s Executive Committee. Mr. Marcus’s prior experience includes private equity positions at Continental Entertainment Capital, Drum Capital Management and Bassini Playfair + Associates from 1999 to 2010.
Anatoli Gavrilov joins Caspian as Associate, Investments
Anatoli Gavrilov has joined Caspian’s investment team as Associate on March 1st, 2013. Mr. Gavrilov’s prior experience includes private equity analyst positions at Roc Resources, LLC, Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. and The Burgiss Group from 2009 to 2013.
