Emerging Capital Partners, along with its investment partners, has sold C-Re Holding Ltd. to Saham Finances S.A, the insurance arm of Saham Group. Financial terms weren’t announced. C-Re owns 53.6 percent of Continental Reinsurance, a private reinsurance company in Africa, excluding South Africa.

Emerging Capital exits NSIA

Emerging Capital Partners said Wednesday that it sold its stake in la Nouvelle Societé Interafricaine d’Assurance Participations SA (NSIA) to the National Bank of Canada and Amethis Africa Finance. Financial terms weren’t announced. The NSIA is an insurance group in French-speaking West and Central Africa and a banking institution in Côte d’Ivoire.

CalSTRS commits $200 mln from emerging manager portfolio

The California State Teachers’ Retirement System has committed $200 million from its Private Equity Proactive Portfolio, which focuses on small, niche emerging managers. CalSTRS made a $100 million pledge to Chicago-based Muller & Monroe Asset Management, which is targeting $400 million for its M2 Private Equity Fund of Funds II. CalSTRS also committed $100 million to BAML Capital Access Funds Management. The commitments expand the system’s emerging manager program to $1.9 billion.

Allstate hires CFIG for first emerging manager program

The Allstate Corporation has launched its first emerging manager program to invest with small private equity and private equity real estate equity asset managers with a focus on minority- and women-owned firms. The program will be administered by the Customized Fund Investment Group. Allstate and CFIG are looking for managers raising their first, second or third funds with less than $500 million in assets.

OPIC searches for emerging markets private equity managers

The Overseas Private Investment Corporation has made a call for emerging markets private equity funds, to which the institution wants to commit between $35 million to $150 million. OPIC’s commitments won’t represent more than 33 percent of a fund’s total capitalization, with the balance of a fund’s total capital coming from private investors, international finance institutions and other sources. TorreyCove Capital Partners is assisting OPIC in vetting managers.

SBI-FMO Emerging Asia Financial Sector Fund launches

Japan’s SBI Holdings and the Netherlands Development Finance Company have announced the formal launch of the SBI-FMO Emerging Asia Financial Sector Fund. The fund will invest in promising financial sector opportunities in emerging Asia (with a focus on India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam) and will be managed by SBI Ven Capital, Singapore.

American Century launches new emerging markets fund

American Century Investments has launched a new fund focusing on emerging markets. Entitled Emerging Markets Equity Fund, the pool seeks to invest in companies that have growth potential and a market capitalization greater than $500 million. Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, American Century is a privately-held investment management firm.
