Angel investors pull back in 2014

Angel investors pulled back a bit in 2014 with fewer dollars going to U.S. startups. Investments still added up to a healthy $24.1 billion, but were down 2.8 percent from 2013, according to a study.


Median pre-money valuations fall in A and C rounds in the first quarter

For several years, it seems, venture valuations and round sizes have been on a steady march upward. Here is some data running in the opposite direction. The law firm Cooley in its quarterly deal analysis found that median pre-money valuations for both Series A and C transactions fell in the first quarter.

Venture capitalists around the globe appeared to continue pouring money in high priced deals in the first quarter, according to market monitors PitchBook. Globally $22.9 was invested, a 26 percent increase from the same quarter a year ago.

Corporate VCs put more money to work last year in the United States than they had in the previous 14. In Q1, they could be taking a breather, as their investment pace seems to be slowing, although the trend is masked by the giant SpaceX funding.

Tech Coast Angels sets record last year with $16.4 mln invested

For the Tech Coast Angels, 2014 was the busiest year ever, with $16.4 million placed in 61 deals, according to a press release. Both capital dispersed and deals funded set records for the group, which was formed in 1997. Investment dollars were up 12 percent from 2013, the release stated.
