Celesio AG said it has agreed to buy a 90 pct stake in WWMW e-commerce international GmbH, the holding company of Dutch online pharmacy operator DocMorris for an undisclosed sum. Selling shareholders include 3i , HgCapital and Neuhaus Partners.
DocMorris's management will hold the remaining 10 pct of the shares.
'Through this acquisition Celesio gets hold of the only pharmacy brand which is known all over Germany,' the company said in a statement.
The deal is subject to regulatory approval.
DocMorris, which will remain legally independent within Celesio, last year opened a pharmacy in Saarland in Germany, sparking a debate over whether Germany should liberalize its pharmacy market.
Under German law, pharmacies can only be operated by licensed pharmacists, each of whom can run no more than four outlets.
