HOUSTON, Sept. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Cimbria Capital announced today the appointment of J. Julian Smith, Ph.D. as Operating Partner. Dr. Smith joined Cimbria Capital with the purpose of further strengthening the firm’s agribusiness strategy and industry relationships with a particular focus on the future of agricultural technology innovation. He serves as a direct advisor to Cimbria Capital’s investment team and as a potential board member for certain Cimbria portfolio companies.

A widely published and recognized professional in the fields of agronomy and precision agriculture, Dr. Smith is currently President of CZO Agronomics, a global consulting group devoted to technical advisory and end-to-end project management services in agribusiness and horticulture. Before founding CZO Agronomics, Dr. Smith was the Director of Discovery & Innovation for Brandt Consolidated, Inc.

“We take great pleasure in welcoming Dr. Smith to the Cimbria team,” said Brian Iversen and Henrik Rasmussen, co-founders of Cimbria Capital. “Dr. Smith has demonstrated leadership in developing and commercializing innovative agricultural technologies for growers throughout the world. He possesses decades of experience in sophisticated agribusiness markets and understands what portfolio companies need to bring to the agricultural value chain to be successful.”

“I am delighted to be joining the Cimbria team. The innovative and forward thinking of this group presents a marvelous opportunity for me personally and CZO Agronomics. I look forward to helping Cimbria and their portfolio companies optimize their goals and objectives,” said Dr. Smith.

Dr. Smith’s career has been primarily focused on plant nutrition and specialty products, as well as their positioning within the agricultural market-places of North America and Europe. The latter half of Dr. Smith’s work has focused on micro-nutrient application for all crops, to compliment his earlier research and market development on foliar nutrition and integrated crop management. He is a recipient of the prestigious Fluid Fellow Award.

“Intelligent capital allocation into the agribusiness sector is essential to Cimbria’s mission and we are confident Dr. Smith will help us steward investment into the emerging companies that will yield superior returns for both investors and society at large,” said Mr. Iversen and Mr. Rasmussen. “With his comprehensive acumen in both international business and plant science, Dr. Smith will play a key role in evaluating portfolio companies formulating the best products for modern farming.”
