PRESS RELEASE
Leading game developer and publisher CrowdStar announced today that Jeffrey Tseng, co-founder and general manager of products, has been promoted to CEO of the company. Former CEO and co-founder Peter Relan returns to his post of executive chairman on the board of directors.
“Jeffrey was instrumental in the company’s successful pivot to mobile social gaming,” said Relan. “His four years at CrowdStar building free-to-play games, combined with his prior background at Sega building AAA console games, make him the ideal choice for the next phase of the company’s growth in mobile.”
Tseng is a graduate of Cornell University and was on the executive team at Secret Level, which was acquired by Sega in 2006. While at CrowdStar he led the production of multiple games, oversaw the development of the business intelligence platform, and has led user acquisition efforts as well.
“I’m excited to lead CrowdStar into the next phase of growth on both domestic and global mobile platforms,” said Tseng. “I have an excellent management team and very supportive investors. We will be growing aggressively yet strategically in terms of capital raising and partnering.”
CrowdStar’s investors include Time Warner Investments, Intel Capital, YouWeb and The9. It has announced strategic publishing partnerships with Japanese network, GREE, and Chinese social giant, Tencent, for social gaming network reach around the world.
Tseng will also join the mobile gaming company’s Board of Directors along with CrowdStar co-founder, Suren Markosian, and Rachel Lam, senior vice president and group managing director of TW Investments at Time Warner Inc.
CrowdStar’s franchises include the huge 2009 hit Happy Aquarium on Facebook and top-grosser, Top Girl, in the App Store in 2011. In only four years the company has produced over a dozen games played by over 250 million users around the world.
