DentalPlans.com, an online provider of discount dental plans for individuals across America, has elected Joan E. Herman to its board of directors. The business is backed by Riverside.

DentalPlans.com, the largest online provider of Discount Dental Plans for individuals and families across America, announced today it has elected Joan E. Herman to its Board of Directors.

Herman brings a wealth of executive leadership and health benefits knowledge to DentalPlans.com’s Board of Directors. With more than 30 years of insurance and health care management experience, Herman will help DentalPlans.com diversify its products and services, while identifying new market segments to introduce Discount Dental Plans to more than 100 million Americans without dental insurance.

Herman spent a decade with WellPoint Inc., an organization that Fortune Magazine called the “most respected healthcare company” for six consecutive years, serving as the president and CEO of its Consumer Business Unit, as well as the president and CEO for Specialty, Senior and State Sponsored Business.

“There is a great deal of opportunity for DentalPlans.com to grow its services, and educate more Americans across demographics about how Discount Dental Plans can help save money on dental care,” said Herman.

While at WellPoint, Herman launched a new Medicare drug benefit that helped the organization build a strong partnership with Medicare, while bringing in $1.3 billion in revenue. She also established the company’s specialty pharmacy service, which grew to $573 million in just two years.

Prior to joining WellPoint, Herman served in several senior management positions with Phoenix Life Insurance Company in Hartford, Conn. A graduate of Yale University, she also serves on the Board of Directors for Convergys, and Qualicorp SA, and is co-chair of the Jewish Venture Philanthropy Fund.
