E&Y Promotes Schlich

Ernst & Young has named firm veteran Bill Schlich as head of its global banking and capital markets practice. He succeeds James Fanning, who is retiring.

Bill Schlich, an international banking veteran of 20 years with specific experience in credit and liquidity matters, has been appointed Ernst & Young Global Banking & Capital Markets Practice Leader.

In his new role, Mr. Schlich will oversee a network of 30,000 financial services professionals representing Ernst & Young's largest industry practice, which accounts for nearly 15 percent of Ernst & Young's total revenue and serves over a quarter of the organization's largest clients.

Mr. Schlich is one of Ernst & Young's leading advisors on the credit crisis and will continue to work with commercial and investment banks. He serves key global banking accounts and sits on both the Americas and global partner advisory panels, where he provides guidance to Ernst & Young's global executives. His roles have included advising banking and private equity clients on issues such as the application of fair value accounting, valuation of thinly traded financial products, capital adequacy and regulatory disclosures.

“The global banking industry is experiencing dramatic shifts, demanding strong leadership that will help Ernst & Young clients navigate through these challenging times,” said Carmine Di Sibio, Vice Chair and Managing Partner, Ernst & Young Americas Financial Services. “Bill's extensive experience in the global banking arena and dedicated focus on the credit and liquidity crisis will continue to bolster our commitment to client serving excellence.”

Mr. Schlich succeeds James Fanning, who retired in June after 38 years of service with Ernst & Young.
