PRESS RELEASE

Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners’ Winch Capital 2 fund has taken a stake in MCI, an international congress and event management company

With 47 offices in 23 countries and sales of CHF 337m in 2012, MCI is today a leading Professional Congress Organizer (PCO – organiser of scientific congresses for associations and institutionals) and a leading organizer of conferences and events for companies. The group has a strong presence in the pharmaceutical sector and an excellent image and reputation both for the quality of its service offer and its capacity to innovate and provide creative solutions. The group is also a model of employee shareholding schemes as close to 100 senior executives and managers own shares.
The group’s top management team (Roger Tondeur, Sébastien Tondeur, Jurriaen Sleijster and Robin Lokerman) aim to accelerate MCI’s international development by maintaining a strong acquisitions drive. To do so, the Group’s shareholders decided to appeal to a new pool of investors to boost equity capital and allow it to finance this strong growth. Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners through its WINCH Capital 2 fund has taken a minority stake and joins Iris Capital which invested in MCI in 2010.
François-Xavier Mauron and Sophie Nordmann-Caetano, Investment Directors at Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners, said, “We are delighted to help MCI and its senior management with the next leg of the group’s development. This is the WINCH Capital 2 fund’s 14th deal and it will help the MCI group accelerate deployment of its international network in line with Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners’ core investment strategy of acting as a minority partner for entrepreneurs looking to finance strong organic and external growth both in Europe and beyond.”
Under the leadership of Roger Tondeur, MCI’s founding chairman and biggest shareholder, the group has seen impressive growth since it was set up in 1987 in Geneva, combining organic growth with close to 30 acquisitions. The group has doubled in size since 2008.
