GMT Communications Partners has hired Jonny Maxwell as senior advisor. Previously, Maxwell served as global head of private equity fund of funds at Allianz Private Equity Partners. GMT Communications Partners is a Europe-based private equity firm focused on the media, information, entertainment and telecommunications sectors.

GMT Communications Partners is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonny Maxwell as Senior Advisor to GMT. Jonny brings a wealth of General and Limited Partners’ perspective spanning almost 30 years, having managed and raised many successful funds during that time. GMT is one of Europe’s leading investors in the TMT sector, actively investing in the European marketplace for the past 20 years.
Formerly Global Head of Private Equity Fund of Funds at Allianz Private Equity Partners, Jonny had overall responsibility for indirect private equity activities. Allianz, one of the world’s largest insurance companies, then managed in excess of Euro 6.4 billion of private equity fund assets.
Prior to joining Allianz in 2007, Jonny was Founder and Chief Executive at Standard Life Investments (Private Equity) in Edinburgh, Scotland, now known as SL Capital Partners. During his 17 years at Standard Life he built the private equity business and assets from a small single client operation into an international multi-client manager with private equity assets over Euro 5.5 billion.
He began his career in private equity in 1984 at Stewart Fund Managers and has been involved in both fund and direct investment transactions throughout.
Jonny has served on the Advisory Boards and Investment Committees of a number of private equity funds. He is also a fellow of the Securities Institute. Jonny has a Law degree from the University of Strathclyde and an MBA from the University of Edinburgh.
Jonny has also recently joined the Advisory Board of Argentex, a foreign exchange specialist providing bespoke advisory and execution services to corporates, institutions, government agencies and not-for-profit organisations, where he will work closely with the Advisory Board Chairman, Lord Digby Jones.
