FLAG Capital names Zhu as partner, will co-lead FLAG Squadron Asia

FLAG Capital Management said Wednesday that it has hired Myron Zhu as a partner. In his new position, Zhu, along with Wen Tan, a partner, will lead FLAG Squadron Asia. Previously, Zhu worked at JP Morgan Chase Bank where he served as head of alternative investments – CIO Asia.

STAMFORD, CT and HONG KONG – April 9, 2014 — FLAG Capital Management, LLC, a leading private capital solutions provider with over $6.5 billion in client commitments since inception, today announced that Myron Zhu has joined the firm as a Partner. Together with Wen Tan, Partner, Myron will lead FLAG’s dedicated Asia Pacific investment operations, FLAG Squadron Asia, consisting of over 15 professionals. The team’s investment professionals speak over 10 languages and feature country-specific specialists across the region.
Zhu will direct the firm’s private investment activities in China with the support of Alice Chow, Senior Advisor, and its China-focused team. He will also serve on FLAG’s Asia Investment and Management Committees and will be integral to its increased co-investment activities. FLAG Squadron Asia seeks to deploy capital to country-focused funds best positioned to perform in Asia’s least efficient market segments, complemented by opportunistic co-investments and secondary investing. Zhu joins as Peter Denious, a Partner, who oversaw the successful integration of FLAG Squadron Asia into FLAG in 2013, has refocused on co-leading the firm’s U.S. venture capital strategy.

Zhu brings to FLAG Squadron Asia extensive managerial, operational, and institutional investment experience. Most recently, Zhu was Head of Alternative Investments – CIO Asia, at JP Morgan Chase Bank, where he founded and built the firm’s Asia business as a major player in the region. Prior to that, Zhu was with DBS Private Equity in Hong Kong, where he led the firm’s investment activities in Greater China. He joined DBS from AIG Capital Partners in New York, where he originated, analyzed and executed on investments principally in the Pacific Rim. Prior to AIG he held risk management and marketing positions after launching his career with Credit Suisse First Boston.
