FocalPoint Partners, an independent Los Angeles-based investment banking firm, today announced the addition of Thomas Mills to lead the development of the firm’s Chicago office. Mills joins FocalPoint as Managing Director, primarily focused on the debt capital markets and special situations.

Mills has spent his career working with middle market business owners and private equity groups on raising capital to support leveraged buy-outs, management buy-outs, refinancings, balance sheet recapitalizations, as well as rescue financing transactions. He has broad industry expertise, including recent transactions in healthcare products and services, restaurants and retail; consumer products; marketing services; environmental services; manufacturing and capital goods; distribution; and transportation. Prior to joining FocalPoint, he was Head of Debt Capital Markets for Livingstone Partners, an international boutique investment banking firm. Earlier in his career, he worked in middle market commercial finance with Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase Bank.

FocalPoint Managing Director Rajesh Sood said “We are pleased to have Tom join our team and to help expand our efforts in the Midwest, which we see as a key region for the middle market. Tom will be a tremendous addition to the team. In spite of the challenges in the current economic environment, Tom has been very actively closing numerous transactions on behalf of both entrepreneurs and private equity firms.”

“FocalPoint has established itself as a trusted and fully independent advisor in the middle market, and I am honored to join this team and build on the record of success they have already achieved”, added Thomas Mills. “The firm’s network of capital markets providers and ability to execute on all types of transactions allows us to objectively advise our clients on all of the options available to them for a given situation. I look forward to growing our presence in the Midwest and delivering FocalPoint’s broad capabilities to an expanded client base.”
Mills holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from DePaul University.
