Harrison Street Real Estate Capital has named James Choi as an associate. In his new position, Choi will focus on the firm’s open-end core fund, Harrison Street Core Property Fund. Based in Chicago, Harrison Street Real Estate Capital is a real estate investment management firm.

CHICAGO, IL (September 30, 2013)—James Choi has joined Harrison Street Real Estate Capital as an Associate and will dedicate his time to the firm’s open-end core fund, Harrison Street Core Property Fund, LP. The announcement was made by Christopher Merrill, Co-founder, President and CEO of Harrison Street Real Estate Capital.
In this role Mr. Choi will lead the effort related to performance measurement, benchmarking and the fulfillment of all investor requests for information. He will report to Joey Lansing member of the Investment Committee and a lead Portfolio Manager for the Core Fund.
“We believe that James will immediately provide tremendous value by deepening our analytical capabilities and adding industry context to better measure the core fund’s performance,” said Mr. Lansing said “We look forward to his contributions.”
Prior to joining Harrison Street Real Estate Capital, Mr. Choi was a Manager with Investment Property Databank (IPD) focused on Performance and Risk Analytics. In this position, he played an integral role in launching the PREA | IPD U.S. Property Fund Index, which encompasses both core and non-core open-end strategies within the United States and totals approximately $125B in Gross Asset Value as of 4Q 2012. This index is rapidly becoming a key industry benchmark for all open-end core funds.
Choi is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison where he earned his BBA in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics, Risk Management and Insurance.
According to Merrill, Choi represents the fourth new addition to Harrison Street this year, and demonstrates that the firm continues to invest in the team. The firm, with over $5 billion in assets under management (AUM), now has approximately 60 employees.
