Social media management system HootSuite has bought Seesmic, and will integrate the cross-platform application founded by Loïc Le Meur into its platform. Specifics of the transaction were not publicized. Seesmic, based in California, was backed by a number of angel investors and Softbank Capital. Hootsuite, based in Canada, is backed by Blumberg Capital and Hearst Ventures, among others.
HootSuite has acquired Seesmic, putting its management tools into the hands of even more social media business users. After years of friendly competition, HootSuite CEO Ryan Holmes and Seesmic Founder Loïc Le Meur have agreed to a deal and a plan for the transition:
HootSuite will continue to support Seesmic, while transitioning business users to HootSuite’s larger social media management toolset
Consumer users of Seesmic are encouraged to explore new tools, apps and features available at Twitter.com
It is a logical step in the lifecycle of both companies, who have shared many similarities since they were founded four years ago. Seesmic is a cross-platform application that was founded in 2008 by super entrepreneur and blogger Loïc Le Meur. HootSuite’s acquisition of a major player is yet another milestone in the company’s recent hyper-growth. HootSuite focuses on the needs of power users, so Seesmic’s business and enterprise customers will further reinforce HootSuite’s position in the upper left quadrant of the Twitter Partner graph:
