PRESS RELEASE

Impetus Trust, the pioneer of venture philanthropy in the UK, has strengthened its investment team with the appointment of Elena Pantazi to the role of Investment Manager.

Pantazi was previously Vice President of CognoLink, an international research firm that supports investment decisions by connecting leading hedge fund, private equity and consulting clients with a network of industry specialists. Pantazi was CognoLink’s first employee and during her three years the organisation grew to 70 staff. She managed all aspects of the business start-up, led a team of 20 research associates to develop a network of 15,000 specialists and laid the groundwork for the firm’s expansion into Asia.

Impetus injects funding, expertise and management support into charities and social enterprises to help them multiply the number of people they are able to help each year. In the nearly 10 years since its founding, Impetus has invested in 23 organisations, and has very ambitious plans to grow the size of its active portfolio by the end of 2012/13. Pantazi joins the team that is responsible for identifying and assessing potential investee organisations and supporting successful investees through the process.

Commenting on her appointment at this important time, Pantazi said, “The unique proposition of venture philanthropy, which uses the principles of venture capital to achieve social returns, is what attracted me to Impetus. I am very excited to be helping to deliver the growth plan for our portfolio of innovative charities and social enterprises, so people who would otherwise be trapped in gangs, unemployment, offending or truancy can get into education, training and employment.”

Prior to CognoLink, Pantazi was an Analyst in Emerging Markets Team at UBS Investment Bank in London, where she was involved in deal sourcing and due diligence. She holds an MBA from INSEAD, an MPhil in International Relations from the University of Cambridge and a BSc with First Class Honours in Economics from University College London.
