Incipient Inc., a Waltham, Mass.-based provider of storage virtualization and automated data migration software solutions, has raised $15.6 million in Series E funding. Return backers included Globespan Capital Partners, GrandBanks Capital, HLM Venture Partners, Greylock, QuestMark Partners, Sigma Partners and Wasatch Advisors. A new investor also participated, but its identity was not disclosed. Incipient previously had raised $79 million in VC funding since 2001.

Incipient will use this new funding to expand global sales and marketing initiatives for its enterprise-class award winning storage virtualization and automated data migration software solutions now being used by leading financial services organizations to automate and virtualize their data center operations.
