PRESS RELEASE

JAG Shaw Baker is pleased to announce its launch as one of the first law firms in Europe dedicated to venture capital and advising entrepreneurs, companies and investors in high growth industries. With one of the largest and most experienced venture capital law teams in Europe, the boutique firm is uniquely positioned to serve the growth company sector in the UK and the US.

The founding partners of the firm, experienced venture capital lawyers James Shaw and Tina Baker, are combining their experience in technology, life sciences and clean tech sectors to work with emerging growth companies and their investors globally. Clients of the firm include international early and late stage institutional investors, angel investors, family offices and high growth companies in all sectors.

James Shaw comments: “Starting JAG Shaw Baker was a demand-driven decision. As entrepreneurship continued to flourish across Europe, we received increasing approaches for legal support. Our clients wanted a legal team with a deep understanding of the nuances of entrepreneurial businesses and venture capital deals. It became clear that it made sense to start a boutique firm focused solely on this market.”

Shaw and Baker are joined by three other partners: Richard Penfold (formerly of Brown Rudnick) as Head of the Intellectual Property practice, Susanna Stanfield (formerly of Taylor Wessing) as corporate Partner with a particular focus on Cambridge, and Morven Greig as Managing Partner. In addition, Charles Crosthwaite, also formerly of Brown Rudnick, heads the M&A and IPO practice, and the firm is bolstered by a dedicated support team. JAG Shaw Baker is hiring and will continue to grow the team.

JAG Shaw Baker’s primary focus is corporate and commercial law for venture-backed companies and their range of investors. The team’s breadth of experience can support the entire life cycle of traditional venture-backed companies from seed stage through growth capital investment rounds and M&A, to IPO and other exit routes. It includes support securing and commercialising IP, corporate governance and on-going operational activity.

The firm is making intellectual property and technology rights a cornerstone of the practice to support their client base.

Tina Baker comments: “JAG Shaw Baker is passionate about great people and great businesses with disruptive ideas and technologies and in helping them operate on a global scale.”

“Our decision to start the firm illustrates the maturation of the European venture/growth capital ecosystem. We are very optimistic of its continued growth and have chosen a team of exceptional lawyers who are dedicated to and experienced in servicing this sector. We are so pleased to be attracting outstanding clients from the start, and believe our unique offering and capabilities will fuel our continued growth.”
