Jim Nussle has joined the advisory board of Avista Capital Partners. He is a former Iowa congressman who served as Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget from 2007 to 2009, and currently runs his own consultancy.
Avista Capital Partners, a leading private equity firm, today announced that it has named Jim Nussle to its Advisory Board. Mr. Nussle brings to Avista his strategic insight into the intersection of business and federal regulation and public policy, honed over his more than twenty years in Washington. A former White House cabinet member and longtime Iowa Congressman, Mr. Nussle currently serves as President and CEO of The Nussle Group, a multi-discipline public policy and strategic consulting firm.
Thompson Dean, Avista’s Co-Managing Partner and Co-CEO, said, “We are very pleased to welcome Jim Nussle to our Advisory Board. Over the course of his career, Jim has developed deep expertise – from both a business and government perspective – on issues that span from the national energy debate, to healthcare reform, to the evolving dialogue on the regulation of media and technology. The insight he has gained in these areas dovetails perfectly with Avista’s focus on investments in the energy, healthcare, and media industries. For that reason, we believe Jim will play an invaluable role advising the firm on matters that may impact both our existing portfolio companies as well as the potential future investments we are evaluating.”
Mr. Nussle said, “I look forward to bringing my experience to bear in helping Avista weigh the impact of public policy and regulatory issues on its business. For instance, the firm already makes savvy investments in energy and natural gas companies; I hope to augment their work with my own expertise in new energy, innovative and efficient technology, and the environment. And when it comes to the potential effects of healthcare reform on Avista’s current and future investments, I am in a position to add particular value through my experience with health policy, reimbursement, and tax issues.”
From 2007 to 2009, Mr. Nussle served as Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget in the cabinet of President George W. Bush. Prior to that, Mr. Nussle spent 16 years representing the state of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives. Mr. Nussle received his B.A. in Political Science, Economics, and International Studies from Luther College, and his J.D. from Drake University.
