Job of the Week: A Foot into Blackstone’s Fund Placement Business

This week’s job vacancy is for a position within Blackstone subsidiary Park Hill Group.

Park Hill Group provides fund placement services for alternative investment managers, including private equity funds, hedge funds, real estate funds, and venture capital funds. Since inception in 2005, Park Hill has worked with over 70 funds that have raised more than $162 billion for a diverse range of investment strategies.

Fund closings for the group this year include in April the 1.5 billion euro ($1.9 billion) Lion Capital Fund II, a buyout fund focused on mid-sized consumer oriented businesses in Europe and North America; the energy-focused Denham Commodity Partners Fund VI in March; lower mid-market manufacturing focused Industrial Opportunity Partners II, also in March and in January the $16.2 billion global buyout fund Blackstone Capital Partners VI.

Other prominent names within Park Hill’s portfolio include Astorg V; Centrebridge Capital Partners II; EnCap Energy Capital Fund VIII; Industrial Growth Partners IV; Pacific Alliance Asia Special Situations Fund; Park Square Capital Partners II; Patria Brazilian Private Equity Fund IV and Riverwood Capital Partners all closed in 2011.

The Park Hill Secondary Advisory practice delivers solutions to clients seeking liquidity to their private equity, hedge fund, and real estate assets on the secondary market. The business is fully integrated with the broader Park Hill Group, leveraging a global network of relationships. The team assists clients on all aspects of secondary transactions including end-to-end process management, buyer identification and segmentation, structuring, valuation, due diligence coordination, counterparty negotiation, and closing.

Job Title: Park Hill Secondary Advisory Group – Analyst

Park Hill is seeking an analyst to support and grow its secondary advisory practice. The analyst will participate in all aspects of the business including supporting secondary sale transactions (similar to an investment banking divestment assignment), underwriting alternative asset investments, and preparing presentations to win new business.

Park Hill is seeking individuals with strong critical thinking, analytical, writing, and communication skills, who take initiative, have great attention to detail, work well under pressure, multi-task extremely well, and have the ability to work well both independently and within a team.

The successful candidate will work directly with other members of the PHG secondary team to support the sourcing and execution of private equity, hedge fund and real estate secondary transactions.

Responsibilities (as cited via Blackstone website):

− Construct portfolio summaries and perform portfolio analytics
− Build complex models to analyze transaction returns
− Maintain electronic data rooms and pricing databases
− Assist in the preparation of marketing documents
− Prepare pitch book presentations
− Prepare deal memos and other transaction summary materials
− Coordinate diligence sessions and manage buyer information requests
− Participate in negotiations between clients and counterparties
