New York-based seed investment firm ff Venture Capital is expanding its acceleration team to include an in-house designer, hacker and public relations specialist. The positions are based in midtown Manhattan. The new team members will work both on in-house ff projects and also work with portfolio companies.
For this week’s position we thought we would highlight the criteria for Hacker-In-Residence.
According to ff Venture Capital, the Hacker-In-Residence will develop further ff’s web and media presence and work on proprietary technology to help portfolio companies. In addition, the successful candidate will work on strategic initiatives to help and support the portfolio.
The firm states about the role: “The ideal Hacker-In-Residence has seen his or her share of startups and is ready to define, test, and promulgate the best practices they have developed. You should be comfortable handling the full stack, and be equally comfortable working autonomously, or leading a small team.”
Applicants should demonstrate the following skills, according to the job posting:
• exceptional hacker / coder who is comfortable working independently or leading small teams
• comfortable owning a project, and wearing as many hats as needed to get the job done
• excellent communications and management skills
• a portfolio that includes self-started personal projects for which you had total control. It could be an app or a website, but it should be something where you were able to realize your vision.
• an active Github account.
ff Venture Capital has been investing in seed opportunities since 1999 and has made over 160 investments in over 55 companies. Last November the firm closed a $27 million fund with a goal of investing in up to 40 companies by the end of this year. The firm is based out of its office in Manhattan (5000 square feet of open office space, housing three portfolio companies and over 20 standing desks), and invests across the US and internationally.
The firm’s current portfolio includes companies such as Klout, Indiegogo, Livefyre, HowAboutWe, 500px, Contently, Local Response, and Voxy.
