PRESS RELEASE

In its first addition to its recently established Palo Alto office, Sidley Austin LLP announced that Justin L. Bastian will join the firm as a partner. Bastian’s work focuses on capital markets transactions, securities compliance, and corporate governance. Bastian has represented technology companies or their underwriters in more than 75 public offerings involving companies in the semiconductor, semiconductor equipment, software, communications, computer, internet, and other industries. He has also counseled numerous clients in connection with preferred stock offerings and convertible and high-yield debt financings.

Tom DeFilipps, managing partner of Sidley’s Palo Alto office, commented, “Justin is a perfect fit for our strategy in building the Palo Alto office. Adding an experienced partner focused on representation of public technology companies and their underwriters was a top priority. We are very happy to be welcoming a partner with Justin’s skills and industry experience.”

Justin Bastian said, “I am excited about joining Sidley’s Palo Alto office and working with my new colleagues, including Deborah Marshall, Hank Barry and Tom DeFilipps, to leverage the Sidley platform to serve the technology industry. I believe that I can contribute significantly to that effort.”

“We are committed to building our Palo Alto office as we continue to expand our client base of technology and innovation companies,” said Anne E. Rea, the member of Sidley’s Management Committee responsible for its West Coast offices. “Attracting a top notch partner like Justin with strong ties to the investment banks and public companies operating in Silicon Valley is an important step forward.”

Sidley established its Palo Alto office in late 2009 with veteran lawyers who understand the process of technology innovation. The Palo Alto office focuses on corporate, technology transactions, and IP litigation matters for emerging and established technology companies, with a particular focus on companies in the information technology, digital media, life sciences, and clean tech industries. In serving their technology clients, the lawyers in the Palo Alto office collaborate with Sidley’s well-recognized practices in areas such as capital markets, M&A and government regulation, as well as Sidley’s global platform, which includes six offices in Asia and four in Europe.

Sidley Austin LLP is one of the world’s largest full-service law firms, with approximately 1700 lawyers practicing in 17 U.S. and international cities, including Beijing, Brussels, Frankfurt, Geneva, Hong Kong, London, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo. Every year since 2003, Sidley has been named to Legal Business’ Global Elite, its designation for the 18 firms “that define the pinnacle of the legal profession.” Sidley is recognized for service and responsiveness—BTI, a Boston-based research and consulting firm, has named Sidley as one of only two firms to have been in the top ten of the BTI Client Service rankings every year since the inception of those rankings in 2001, and was number one in three of those years.
