Madison Williams and Company (, an integrated capital markets and investment banking firm, announced today that fund placement veteran James J. McCarvill, Jr. and Madison Williams have recently formed a new placement and advisory group called Madison Williams Private Capital Solutions to raise capital for private equity, real estate and real asset funds as well as selected operating platforms and direct investment opportunities. Bill Sprague, President and CEO of Madison Williams said, “We are very excited about partnering with Jim and his team. By working together, we will be the only comparable firm offering the breadth of fund placement services to leading institutional investors, as well direct capital raising for growth companies and platforms in the energy, power and infrastructure sectors.”

Mr. McCarvill was the Head of Real Asset Funds while at C.P. Eaton Partners and was responsible for leading many of the fund raising efforts for energy, infrastructure and commodity funds. Prior to that he had worked in the fund groups of Lehman Brothers, Bank of America and Farrell Marsh & Co. Former clients include some of the top firms in their sectors including: Alinda Infrastructure Fund, Alterna Core Capital Asset Fund, Arclight Energy Partners Fund, Hudson Clean Energy Fund, Teays River Agriculture Fund and the Tenaska Power Fund. The group is open to selectively raising capital for new managers since the majority of the funds that the team raised since 1994 were first time funds.

“We are constantly looking for new market opportunities and emerging managers with distinct competitive advantages that offer investors unique alternative solutions,” said James McCarvill, the senior partner of the group and Managing Director. “Looking at the state of the current fund raising environment, 2009 was a good time to be building a new firm and now, while the market is still challenging, there are growing interest and allocations out there for select managers and strategies, especially in real assets and emerging markets where we are focused.”

Joining Madison Williams Private Capital Solutions in New York is Mr. Derek Dietrich who was previously in the fund raising groups of Fortress Investment Group, Lehman Brothers and Deutsche Bank. He will head up distribution in North America as a Managing Director. Ms. Basak Araz, who recently had her own advisory firm, will head up project management in North America as a Managing Director. She also worked in the fundraising groups of Lehman Brothers, Atlantic-Pacific Capital and Deutsche Bank. The group will announce a number of new hires shortly as it continues to grow its team selectively.

Collectively, these three new firms have 16 professionals and currently have global mandates to raise over $1.25 billion for three leading private equity firms.

“We have worked together for over 8 years and this joint venture and marketing alliance will enable us to originate a wide range a mandates around the world and provide a global fund raising solution for our clients,” added Mr. McCarvill.
