Mainsail Partners hires Will as CFO and operating partner

Mainsail Partners has appointed Ron Will as chief financial officer and operating partner. Previously, Will was the CFO of BrightRoll, which was acquired by Yahoo last December.


San Francisco, CA, June 3, 2015 — Mainsail Partners (, a growth equity firm that invests exclusively in bootstrapped companies, announced today that Ron Will has joined the firm as CFO and operating partner. Ron is the latest in a number of additions to the leadership team at Mainsail and becomes the third operating partner at the firm. He will leverage his extensive experience scaling technology companies to help Mainsail’s portfolio companies balance growth and profitability.

Core to Mainsail’s strategy is an Operations Team which is focused on the specific areas bootstrapped companies need the most help, including sales, marketing, technology, recruiting, business development and finance. In his role as CFO and operating partner at Mainsail, Ron will work closely with the leadership teams at Mainsail’s portfolio companies to help guide strategic and financial planning, operational efficiency improvements and financial controls. In addition to helping Mainsail’s portfolio companies with strategy and execution, Ron will lead financial and accounting due diligence on potential deals and provide financial, accounting and operational leadership within the firm.

Prior to joining Mainsail, Ron was the CFO of BrightRoll from 2011 through its sale to Yahoo in December 2014 for $640mm. Ron managed all aspects of finance and administration including accounting, budgeting, strategic and business analytics, real estate, corporate development, investor relations and legal for the leading global online video advertising platform. Ron worked at Yahoo from 2004 to 2011 in a variety of senior positions in the finance department including Treasurer and Vice President of Corporate Finance.

Before joining Yahoo, Ron spent 12 years in investment banking, working at Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers and Bank of America.
Ron earned his MBA from Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, where he was a Tuck Scholar and earned his bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Michigan.
