Marcello Bottoli joined Advent International’s operating partner programme. He will advise the Boston, Mass.-based firm on global investment opportunities in the retail and consumer sectors, with a focus on branded consumer products, fashion and luxury goods. Bottoli was president and CEO of Samsonite until January 2009.
Advent International, the global private equity firm, today announced that Marcello Bottoli has joined the firm’s Operating Partner Programme. He will advise Advent on global investment opportunities in the retail and consumer sectors, with a focus on branded consumer products, fashion and luxury goods.
Mr. Bottoli was President and CEO of Samsonite Corporation, the leading international travel lifestyle brand, until January 2009. During his five year leadership of Samsonite, he was responsible for the company’s financial turnaround and oversaw the successful sale of the firm for $1.7bn.
Prior to this, Mr. Bottoli was Chairman and CEO at Louis Vuitton Malletier, overseeing the brand’s sustained growth, international expansion and entry into new categories.
Mr. Bottoli also has extensive experience in fast moving consumer goods, having spent 10 years working for Benckiser and then Reckitt Benckiser in London, Amsterdam, Paris and Barcelona. Among other responsibilities, as Executive Vice President, he led worldwide marketing, and research and development for Reckitt Benckiser and was responsible for their Pharmaceutical Operations. He also worked on the Benckiser IPO and subsequently the transnational merger and post merger integration between Reckitt & Colman Plc and Benckiser Nv.

Mr. Bottoli currently holds board positions at International Flavours and Fragrances, a leading fragrance and flavour provider in New York, at True Religion Brand Jeans, a high fashion denim business in Los Angeles, and at Pandora, a modern jewellery manufacturer in Copenhagen.
