Mark Peter Davis Joins High Peaks Venture Partners

Mark Peter Davis, co-founder of the social networking start-up Kohort and a former associate at DFJ Gotham, has joined High Peaks Venture Partners as venture partner. Davis announced the move on his blog, and said that while Kohort will remain his priority, that he is “excited to help HPVP dive into the NYC market.” The firm was one of the investors in Kohort, a social network for groups.

When I left DFJ Gotham last November to become the CEO of Kohort, I wrote a post where I mentioned that I would love to keep a toe in the VC game. I’m happy to announce today that I’m joining High Peaks Venture Partners, one of the funds that invested in Kohort, as a Venture Partner. While Kohort will remain my priority, I’m excited to help HPVP dive into the NYC market.

HPVP is a very interesting firm and they’re becoming one of the pre-eminent players in the NYC ecosystem. They’ve been around for about a decade and have an exceptional track record. They have invested in about two dozen great New York companies such as TicketFly, Savored, TxVia, Enterproid, FlatWorld, RealDirect and beyond. Their most recent investment was VYou which they did with RRE (here’s our portfolio). They’ve also co-invested with other great funds ranging Bain Capital to Bessemer (check out our syndicate partners).

HPVP is actively deploying capital out of a fresh fund and increasing their focus on New York City giving me the opportunity to help support more of the NY ecosystem through this role. They just opened an office in Union Square across from General Assembly and hired Rahul Gandhi as a Senior Associate in the NYC office.

At the end of the day, what was most important to me in deciding to help this team was our shared values. The reason I wanted HPVP to invest in Kohort was because they work hard for their companies, have a long-term view of relationships and are pretty easy going. Those values translate into doing right by people – something that’s important to me.
