MEG Energy Appoints Eric Toews to CFO Spot

Calgary-based oil sands developer MEG Energy Corp. has appointed Eric Toews to the position of CFO. Toews joined the company from BMO Capital Markets, where he held the position of managing director with a focus on the energy sector. MEG Energy completed a $700 million initial public offering in 2010, but continues to have private equity investors, including the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, KERN Partners and Warburg Pincus.


MEG Energy appoints Chief Financial Officer

CALGARY, Aug. 6, 2013 /CNW/ – MEG Energy Corp. announced today the appointment of Eric Toews to the position of Chief Financial Officer.

“Eric brings to MEG more than 20 years of experience, expertise and strategic leadership in the financial sector,” said Bill McCaffrey, President and Chief Executive Officer. “His career has been exclusively focused in oil and gas which will be invaluable as we continue to move forward with our long-term growth strategy.”

Toews joins MEG Energy from BMO Capital Markets where for the past eight years he has held the position of Managing Director, providing strategic financial and capital raising advice to Calgary-based oil and gas companies. Prior to joining BMO Capital Markets, he worked for nine years with leading Canadian and U.S. investment banks based in Calgary, Toronto and New York, focused on the Canadian oil and gas sector. Toews, a chartered accountant, spent the first six years of his career in public accounting with PriceWaterhouse in Calgary and Ernst & Young in Regina. He holds a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Regina and is a member of the Canadian and Alberta Institute of Chartered Accountants.
