Michael Satzberg To Run Sun's Hedge Fund

Michael Satzberg has joined Sun Capital Partners as a managing director of its hedge fund affiliate Sun Capital Securities Fund. He previously was with Jefferies & Co. as a senior vice president, with responsibilities for trading and principal debt investments in several industry sectors.




Sun Capital Partners, Inc. (“Sun Capital”), a leading private investment firm specializing in leveraged buyouts and investments in market-leading companies, today announced the appointment of Michael J. Satzberg as Managing Director, Sun Capital Securities Fund (“SCSF”). Most recently, Satzberg served with Jefferies & Company, Inc., Los Angeles, where, from 1992 to the present, he was a Senior Vice President with responsibilities for trading and principal debt investments in several industry sectors including: paper and packaging, consumer products, chemicals, homebuilders and building suppliers, auto suppliers, and restaurants and food products. He will report directly to Sun Capital's Co-CEOs, Rodger R. Krouse and Marc J. Leder.


As Managing Director, Satzberg will be responsible for the continued development and management of the distressed debt and loan portfolio of SCSF, a non-control hybrid hedge fund with approximately $1.3 billion of committed capital. SCSF capitalizes on proprietary investment opportunities and on Sun Capital's extensive operating and distressed investing experience. Targeted investments for SCSF include non-control equity investments in public and private companies and distressed debt and loans.


Prior to joining Jefferies & Company, Satzberg served as a portfolio manager with 1838 Investment Advisors from 1988 to 1992, where latterly he managed a $400 million closed end, high yield distressed bond fund. From 1985 to 1988, he served as a manager with Coopers & Lybrand. Satzberg received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University, Juris Doctoris from Hofstra University School of Law, and Master of Laws degree in Taxation from Temple University School of Law.
