Montreux Raises $250 Million

Montreux Equity Partners , a Menlo Park, Calif.-based VC firm focused on therapeutic-oriented life sciences companies, has closed its fourth fund with $250 million in capital commitments. Lazard Freres served as placement agent, while limited partners included Hamilton Lane.

Montreaux Equity Partners, L.L.C. (“Montreux” or “MEP”), today announced the close of Montreux Equity Partners IV, L.P. (“MEP IV”), a $250 million venture capital fund focused on therapeutic-oriented life sciences companies. With strong support from existing investors and new institutional investors, MEP IV exceeded its $200 million target and closed at its hard cap of

investor commitments.

Montreux has built a successful track record of investing in therapeutic-oriented companies with several notable exits. These include, more recently, the acquisitions of Cerexa (Forest Laboratories), Novacardia (Merck) and Peninsula Pharmaceuticals (Johnson & Johnson) as well as a number of Initial Public Offerings, including Orexigen Therapeutics (NASDAQ:OREX). MEP IV already has invested in several companies including Glaukos and Avantis Medical in the medical device sector as well as pharmaceutical companies Tobira Therapeutics and Sequel Pharmaceuticals.
