MSD Capital hires New Mountain’s Londal as PE head

MSD Capital LP, the private investment firm that manages the capital of Michael Dell and his family, has hired Douglas Londal as a partner and private equity head. In his new role, Londal has been tasked to expand the firm’s private equity initiatives.

Londal previously worked at New Mountain Capital LLC where he served as president and chief operating officer. He joined New Mountain in 2004 “when the firm had one private equity fund and $770 million of assets under management,” according to the statement announcing Londal’s appointment at MSD Capital. Londal grew New Mountain’s assets to $15 billion in 2014.

Londal, before New Mountain, spent 14 years at Goldman Sachs & Co. where he held a number of leadership positions, including co-head of the U.S. merchant banking business and co-head of the U.S. mezzanine business.

New York-based MSD typically invests between $100 million to $300 million equity in private equity transactions, although it has the flexibility to go above or below that range.
