Canada Cartage, a portfolio company of U.S. private equity firm Nautic Partners, has agreed to acquire D.J. Knoll Transport Ltd, an asset-based transportation provider based in White City, Saskatchewan. The deal, the value of which was not disclosed, is expected to close in February. The proposed acquisition follows Canada Cartage’s buy of Vanguard Global Services Inc earlier this month. Based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Cartage is a provider of trucking services in Canada. It was taken private by Nautic Partners in 2007 for about US$173 million.

Toronto, ON – Canada Cartage has proposed acquisition of D.J. Knoll Transport Ltd., of White City, Sask.
D.J. Knoll is an asset-based transportation provider that specializes in hauling dry bulk freight, liquid bulk freight, and truck-load and LTL dry freight. The transaction is expected to close in early February, 2015.
The addition of D.J. Knoll to Canada Cartage expands the company’s already significant presence in Western Canada.

Dave Tardi, Canada Cartage’s vice president and gneral manager for Manitoba-Saskatchewan said, “This acquisition not only increases our scale of operations in Saskatchewan, but also gives us strategic entry into the dry bulk and liquid tanker markets. We see excellent growth opportunities in the grain, fertilizer and other commodity markets in Western Canada.”
With approximately 100 staff and drivers, D.J. Knoll has an award-winning reputation in the trucking industry. The company was named as one of North America’s “Best Fleets to Drive For” in both 2012 and 2014 by the Truckload Carriers Association and CarriersEdge. The firm was also named one of the “Profit 500 Fastest Growing Companies in Canada” in 2013. D.J. Knoll will continue operations under the D.J. Knoll name and banner.

The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 1914, Canada Cartage is Canada’s largest provider of outsourced fleet solutions, providing dedicated equipment and drivers to both small and large firms.
