Nixon Peabody Goes to China

Nixon Peabody LLP has opened an office in Shanghai, which is the law firm's first office in Asia. The office will be initially staffed on a rotational basis by two U.S. attorneys from Nixon Peabody's China practice: James Chapman and Daniel Deshon. It plans to soon hire a permanent Shanghai staff.

International law firm Nixon Peabody LLP has announced the opening of its Shanghai office.  This is the second international location for the firm, which opened an office in London in 2007.  This is the firm's first office in Asia.

The Shanghai office is an expansion of Nixon Peabody's already active China practice.  Attorneys in Nixon Peabody's China Group are advising clients on how to structure venture capital and private equity investments in China, resolve business and trade disputes, protect and enforce clients' intellectual property rights, and structure and document acquisitions of Chinese domestic companies.

China has one of the most dynamic economies in the world today,” said Harry P. Trueheart, Chairman of Nixon Peabody.  “Our lawyers have years of experience dealing with issues facing U.S. companies when doing business internationally.  Our new Shanghai office offers unique opportunities for our clients' growing business needs as we help U.S. companies understand and navigate the complexities of doing business in China. “

Currently, the office is staffed on a rotational basis by U.S. lawyers from Nixon Peabody's China Group with two  lead partners, James C. Chapman and Daniel A. Deshon.  Mr. Chapman is a partner in the firm's Silicon Valley office who represents companies doing business in China.  Mr. Deshon was previously managing partner of O'Melveny & Myers LLP's Hong Kong office from 1999 to 2003.  The firm plans to have permanent legal staff in Shanghai in the near future.

“In addition to helping U.S. companies expand their businesses abroad, our new office in Shanghai brings us closer to a growing group of Chinese-based clients who are looking for guidance on how to bring their successful business ventures to the U.S.,” said Mr. Deshon.
